Mr. Choi has over 20 years of experience in product development and commercialization with expertise in the medical device industry. He has held executive positions ranging from engineering to marketing and sales in start-up settings to Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to co-founding Intuitive IQ, Mr. Choi was the Chief Business Development Officer at CTL and the VP of R&D at Ellipse Technologies and VertiFlex. While at VertiFlex, he introduced a pioneering minimally invasive technology, enabling interventional physicians to surgically treat lumbar spinal stenosis. He also led the development and the asset sale of a spinal fusion system to Stryker, achieving a 10x return in less than a year from concept to commercialization.
For almost 10 years, Mr. Choi held leadership positions in both marketing and engineering with Stryker Spine and Orthopedics. As a Business Director and a Chief Engineer, he led the development and commercialization of numerous flagship products ranging from Minimally Invasive Systems to Surgical Navigation. Under his leadership, the MIS business unit achieved 70% growth, earning him the Stryker Field Impact award. In 2007, he was showcased in the Stryker Corporation Annual Report for his contribution in developing and launching the Xia 3 Spinal Fusion System, which achieved $200 million in global sales in the first year. Mr. Choi is an author of multiple US and international patents.
Mr. Choi earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from U.C. Berkeley and received his MBA from Rutgers University. He also completed executive education program from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Roh has over fifteen years of experience as an inventor, angel investor, and serial entrepreneur and holds multiple patents through the USPTO. He is a Co-Founder of Intuitive IP, a Seattle-based intellectual property firm created to help life science entrepreneurs transform their ideas into products and services that scale into businesses, which ultimately help patients lead healthier, more productive lives.
He currently serves as a consultant on Stryker corporation’s Surgical Design and Innovation team and was instrumental in the development of their most commercially successful minimally invasive spine system of all time, ES2, as well as their marquee lateral access platform, ARIA. His experience as a serial entrepreneur includes the successful launch, scalable growth, and ultimate acquisition of Advanced Biologics to Bioventus in 2014.
Dr. Roh currently serves as the Chair of Swedish Hospital’s Integrated Spine Program, is the Chair of the Seattle Science Foundation’s annual Minimally Invasive Spine Symposium, and serves as a consultant on Providence Venture’s Strategy & Innovation team. He serves as the Chair of the Arthritis Foundation’s Executive Leadership Board in Washington state and is an Executive Board Member of ProOrtho, Division of Proliance Surgeons. He is actively involved in key strategic initiatives centered on excellence in clinical care, optimization of patient satisfaction, and value-based healthcare delivery.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University and his spine surgery fellowship at Weill Cornell Medicine’s world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. He is a graduate of the Michael G. Foster School of Business MBA program at the University of Washington, serves as a speaker and judge for UW’s Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, and is as an advisor for CoMotion, the tech transfer office of the UW. He is currently enrolled at Columbia University’s Executive Masters of Science in Technology Management program in NYC.
Mr. Chung is a certified public accountant with almost 20 years of experience in providing the management advisory and attestation services primarily with KPMG to a variety of domestic and international based companies in accordance with PCAOB requirements, U.S. GAAP, Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services (SSARS), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). His professional experience ranges from initial public offerings, mergers, and acquisitions, financial due diligence, SEC registration statements and Sarbanes-Oxley 404 among many others.
He has significant experience in various industries including financial services, consumer market, and industrial products and has served private and public companies ranging from development stage enterprises to Fortune Global 500 companies.
Mr. Chung is also an angel investor and serves as an advisor and a mentor at multiple venture capitals and incubators, where he works closely with investors and entrepreneurs to create a healthy business ecosystem, including education sessions, connecting advisors and introduction to investors, then combining seed capital and hands-on help to positively impact the entrepreneurs and early-stage startups.
Mr. Chung currently serves as a board member of East Los Angeles College Foundation, enthusiastically supporting the role of improving the quality, sustainability and student involvement of the college programs and community.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and earned his Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science degree in international business from the University of Houston.
